History of the Institute

I.I. Mechnicov Institute of microbiology and immunology of Ukrainian MSA is one of oldest of scientific - research institute of an antiepidemic profile in the world.

The decision on establishment of Institute and it purposes for the first time were stated in the Order of the open session of the Kharkov medical society from May 24, 1886.

Institute starts to function on April 20, 1887 as scientific - practical medical establishment of the Kharkov medical society on personal agents of the donations of the citizens, members of a medical society and assignments Hubernia Assembly.

During the existence the Institute on the different cause 2 times variated a pattern of ownership, 4 times - departmental subordination, 8 times - name.

From time of establishment till 1920 the Institute was scientific - practical medical establishment with collective (not state) pattern of ownership and entered into composition of the Kharkov medical society.

With 1920 for 2000 the Institute was budget establishment and entered into the nomenclature of the basic research establishments of the Ministry of public health services of Ukraine.

In 2000 Kharkov Scientific research institute of microbiology and immunology by I.I.Mechnicov of MPH of Ukraine was transmit in composition of Medical Sciences Academy of Ukraine. By the order MSA of Ukraine it is renamed into Mechnicov Institute of microbiology and immunology.
